Summary
The Emma Caites Way is the story of two lives separated by decades, yet intertwined. At the turn of the last century, the California Arts & Crafts movement and, in particular, the Plein Air Movement of painters, were hailed for their contributions and their new way of seeing landscape and light. One such artist, Emma Caites, was a woman outside her own time. Though she faded into obscurity, her influence was heartfelt by those around her and extended beyond the reach of her years. While burdened with challenges of health and convention, Emma made her way by capturing her world and the world around her on canvas. There, she left behind a record of a quiet, yet extraordinary life. Years later, Fiona Hedge happens upon an old painting that speaks to her across time and, in a small way, mirrors her life. Intrigued, she sets out to unearth more about the artist. That pursuit becomes her quest, a journey that rediscovers Emma and leads Fiona halfway around the world, and back. Along the way she rebuilds her life and recruits new friends who come together and find that they too, are moved by the life of Emma Caites, her talent and her spirit of determination.
