Broken trust is not the end. Have you ever felt like Job, watching God cure, calm, and care for others, while you remain crumpled on the floor looking for God in the darkness? In Surrendering to Hope, you’ll find fifteen stories of heartbreak and tragedy told with unflinching honesty—brutal deaths of loved ones, chronic illness, mental and sexual abuse, divorce, as well as struggles with same sex attraction, dealing with the trauma of combat loss, and living under racial oppression. But the real story of Surrendering to Hope is that every story is God’s story. Despite brokenness and suffering, God is lovingly, powerfully present in every life. He invites each of us to lean on him in trust and begin a journey towards peace.

The Psalms have long been the preferred prayer book of souls in quest of God's guidance and comfort. It has been a hymnbook for the soul and a trove for canticles and verses of the heart. The Psalms have served both Judaism and Christianity's religious communities as a favored source of rich and magnificent readings perfect for liturgical settings. Most significantly, they have nurtured the soul in its desperate times of brokenness and longing for God. This is true of both religions and of their various branches across the years. For that reason, the Psalter ranks among the noblest of spiritual masterpieces, cherished for its eloquent and poignant prayers that lift the heart to God even as they bring God down to mend the soul. We need such times of private and communal withdrawal into the sphere where God alone reins. Solitariness with God heals the heart's wounds, individually and communally. Alone with God, God sees us as we are and allows us to acknowledge ourselves as we are--at our best and worst, in our joy and folly. The Psalms remind us that God is inescapably present wherever we allow God in to renew, inspire, redeem, and fulfill the highest hopes of our human capacity. By the Waters of Babylon provides meditations on all 150 of the Psalter's hymns. They are written to speak to the heart as well as to the mind and soul in search of grace and consolation.

Mme. Vauquer (nee de Conflans) is an elderly person, who for the past forty years has kept a lodging-house in the Rue Nueve-Sainte-Genevieve, in the district that lies between the Latin Quarter and the Faubourg Saint-Marcel. Her house (known in the neighborhood as the Maison Vauquer) receives men and women, old and young, and no word has ever been breathed against her respectable establishment; but, at the same time, it must be said that as a matter of fact no young woman has been under her roof for thirty years, and that if a young man stays there for any length of time it is a sure sign that his allowance must be of the slenderest. In 1819, however, the time when this drama opens, there was an almost penniless young girl among Mme. Vauquer's boarders. That word drama has been somewhat discredited of late; it has been overworked and twisted to strange uses in these days of dolorous literature; but it must do service again here, not because this story is dramatic in the restricted sense of the word, but because some tears may perhaps be shed intra et extra muros before it is over.

The Human Comedy (French: La Comédie Humaine) is the title of Honoré de Balzac's multi-volume collection of interlinked novels and stories depicting French society in the period of the Restoration (1815-1830) and the July Monarchy (1830–1848). It consists of 91 finished works (stories, novels or analytical essays) and 46 unfinished works (some of which exist only as titles). It does not include Balzac's five theatrical plays or his collection of humorous tales, the "Contes drolatiques" (1832–37). The title of the series is usually considered an allusion to Dante's Divine Comedy; while Ferdinand Brunetière, the famous French literary critic, suggests that it may stem from poems by Alfred de Musset or Alfred de Vigny. While Balzac sought the comprehensive scope of Dante, his title indicates the worldly, human concerns of a realist novelist. The stories are placed in a variety of settings, with characters reappearing in multiple stories. Notable works included in the 'Human Comedy': - The Purse - Domestic Bliss - The Imaginary Mistress - A Daughter Of Eve - Honorine - Beatrix - Gobseck - A Woman Of Thirty - Old Goriot (Father Goriot) - Colonel Chabert - A Marriage Contract - Another Study Of Woman - Ursule Mirouet - Eugenie Grandet - The Vicar Of Tours - The Illustrious Gaudissart - Cesar Birotteau - Sarrasine - Cousin Bette (Cousin Betty) - The Girl With The Golden Eyes - The Chouans - Z. Just beneath the surface of many of the best known, and some less well-known, verses of sacred Scripture, there lies a hidden treasure that many casual Bible readers may never see. Quite often just a short, prayerful pause to reflect upon the written word will allow God the Holy Spirit to open our minds to deeper revelations as to the importance of a specific verse or series of verses. New ways of applying that Scripture to our lives begin to become clear to us. For that reason, pastor and author Sam Owens invites readers to grab their spiritual shovels and dig a little deeper into the treasure that is Gods Holy Word!

Norman Wright, Counselor and author of Recovering from Losses in Life and Why Did This Happen to Me? Words from this life coach go a long way, as her primary passion is equipping the hurting in order to get unstuck and back on track, progressing toward the life of freedom that God promises to every one of His children.

Her Soul Cries (bold & italicized title) was birthed to promote the need for an emotional purging of the soul as a true means for wholeness...In doing so it exposes human nature in its rawest form. The book is nontraditional and is a true depiction of the baggage life gives us to carry. It symbolizes a slow progressiveness from an existence of utter disparity to one of needed changeon a personal level. It includes themes of rejection, domestic abuse, and sexuality. Each one are inclusive to families and communities. Her Soul Cries (bold & italicized title) represents a wide range of emotion. Lighthearted memories are mingled with those that may be more difficult to digest, grasping your attention and arousing your curiosity. This book is written to promote understanding as a replacement for judgment. The writer uses a combination of poetry, prose, random thoughts, teachable statements, and related bible references to create a sense of connection with the reader.

According to the Bible, the God of Christianity has a reputation for answering prayer. However, many Christians have been sometimes severely tempted to think they have been sold short as they have found themselves in some crisis and have cried out to God in all sincerity, and found that he has been "out." From years of pastoral experience in addressing crises, and after having to face crises in his own experience, Roger Abbott attempts to help Christians who are struggling with what seem to be very real instances of God not answering their heartfelt prayers. There are many books about prayer, but there are not many that attempt to face the huge struggles with prayer that pray-ers can face. This book, while refusing to shirk those struggles and the debilitating emotional impact they can have, also attempts to navigate those emotional struggles with the use of a practical theology. Some Christians think, other Christians pray. Hello? Is Anyone There? combines a passion for thoughtful theology and a passion for prayer, out of a passion for a relationship with God in Christ.
